Pain has made me wiser.
Suffering has made me kinder.
Life has made me die,
And love has made me live.

As I walk this short beach
Of my life, my feet sink,
My heart beats, my eyes
Burn with the glare of
The sun on the horizon.
Cleaving winds erase the
Footsteps behind me,
Rolling waves' songs bring
Harmony to my ears, just
As life's simplest paths
And most complex trials
Bring me to the mind of God.

Pain has made me wiser.
Suffering has made me kinder.
Life has made me die,
And love has made me live.

As I climb this tall mountain
Of my life, my hands tremble,
My heart beats, my eyes
Are cut by the frosty wind
That swirls like blades.
Disappearing echoes fly
From me, around me,
Snow embraces me in its chill,
In hopes that it will stop
Me where I stand, where I try,
Just as Lucifer hopes to
Freeze my path to God.

Pain has made me wiser.
Suffering has made me kinder.
Life has made me die,
And love has made me live.

But whether above the blizzards
Or at the end of the shores,
No prize has me like love,
Love, the object of the game
That we live, the destination
And the journey, indeed.
Let us rejoice and be glad
That though our hearts lead us
To darkness, our souls lead
Us to the light. And so, my
Steps in the sand and my grips
On the rocks assure me of this:

Half of life is spent finding
Yourself. The other half
Is spent not knowing that you
Are lost.
